My neighbor had some chickens and ultimately they got loose. The whole neighborhood was inundated with chickens. The chickens found a home in my back yard and roosted in the big evergreen tree next door. In the beginning I loved them. After awhile, they became overwhelming.
One day, one of the roosters left and came back a couple of days later with 6 hens that he stole from around the block. They took up residence in the evergreen in my backyard. I began building nesting boxes for them and they produced eggs. Delicious eggs. One day I saw a hen with 17 chicks coming through the car port. I really loved them. some of the chicks (red banty's I think) had green feet. Eventually they produced white chickens with green feet. One of my crappy neighbors shot or poisioned the whole flock. I have been so missing my chicken ever since. Chickens are so funny and loveable. I even tamed some of the roosters to lie on their backs in my arms and go to sleep. I really, really miss my chickens. Any suggestions? |
