Hens maintain a pecking order that reflects social status in the flock. Sometimes, things can get out of hand and a hen will pick at others feathers, particularly if they’re crowded in their space or if they’re bored. Nip this in the bud if you can. At its worst, excessive pecking can progress to cannibalism; once they get a taste for it, it’s hard to stop.
